Relocation to Georgia: visas, taxes and life remotely

May 28, 2026 · 6 min

Georgia is one of the most popular destinations among remote workers from the CIS: visa-free stay for up to a year, a freelancer-friendly tax system and low prices.

Visas and legal stay

Citizens of many countries, including Russia, can stay in Georgia for up to 360 days without a visa. For a long stay, it is convenient to open an individual entrepreneur with the status of a small business.

Income and taxes

An individual entrepreneur with the status of a “small business” pays only 1% of turnover (up to a certain limit). In many cases, income from abroad is not subject to Georgian tax - but check your residency status individually.

Cost of living

Tbilisi and Batumi are noticeably cheaper than Moscow in terms of rent and food. Developed infrastructure for nomads: co-working spaces, cafes, fast Internet.

Pros

  • Visa-free up to 360 days
  • Tax 1% for small individual entrepreneurs
  • Low prices and warm climate
  • Large Russian-speaking community

Cons

  • Banks are sometimes cautious towards new non-residents
  • It's hot in Tbilisi in summer
  • The quality of roads and service is poor in places

First steps

  • Check the latest visa program requirements on the country's official website.
  • Confirm your income and remote employment with documents (contract, statements).
  • Take out medical insurance for the entire duration of your stay.
  • Calculate a budget for 6–12 months with a reserve for moving and arrangement.
  • Check the issue of tax residency if you plan to stay for a long time.

Important: Visa rules, income thresholds and tax conditions change regularly. This article is a guide and not legal advice. Before moving, always check with official sources of the country and, for large sums, consult a specialist.
